Hadn’t planned to write a blog today, but seeing how the wretched internet connection has gone down, I thought, I might as well post a blag-a-blog (make it up as I go along).Woke up early as usual, made a cuppa, did the housework early, now I’m here on my own with music on. The “choice of tunes” were kind of dictated to me this morning when Art Garfunkel appeared on the sofa on BBC’s breakfast time. After a brief dabble with the Shadows 20 Golden Greats, out came all the Simon & Garfunkel LP’s that I’d collected years ago.
Didn’t realise I had so many, although maybe they were topped up at one of many record fairs I used to go to back in the day. Always good value the 1 for £1 LP bargain section, shame you can’t find out who had them before you and what kind life they have or maybe sadly had. Simon & Garfunkel you know, were only actually together as a duo for around 5 years from 1966 to 1970.They had though, written and performed as Tom & Jerry as early as 1955.After 5 studio albums they were done, they split up soon after the release of Bridge over Troubled Water, which was released on the 26th January 1970.They have briefly reunited a number of times, for concerts, one being the legendary free concert in Central Park in September 1981.With all this 50’s and 60’s atmosphere going on and with a news item about Iran’s nuclear aspirations (power and bombs), on the Russia today news channel, I had a brief look on the CND website. After all, despite keeping a uneasy kind of peace for 67 years, the world would be a much better place without nuclear missiles wouldn’t it ? I can hear drilling, I can hear drilling, hope they’re not digging up the phone line ! “Hazy shade of winter ”….funny how songs hit you at the wrong time, just reinforcing the fact that summers over, I might have to put my clothes back on permanently soon, well for a few months at least, oh nooo perish the thought lmao. Thing I like about old albums is that the songs are fairly short, so rather than having a CD on for around 80 minutes, you can listen to 3 LP’s in the same time. Still no internet connection! Ah…Bridge over troubled water, 4 minutes and 52 seconds of pure genius ! Some of the old LP’s inner sleeves (from CBS) have a recreated newspaper effect on them, giving details of all the CBS artists and what they’re doing at the moment (well they were then).Artists like Neil Young, Colin Blunstone, Miles Davis ,Kris Kristofferson all get a good write up, some others like Johnny Nash seem to have come and disappeared without trace. ”I’m just a poor boy though my story’s seldom told, I have squandered my resistance for a pocketful of mumbles such are promises”, talking of promises I’d better get the hoover out….won’t be long I’ll be back soon. Hoovering done, cleaned the bathroom, mopped the floors, phew I’m hot….
Wooooo the internet’s back on !!
